Conversion of Agricultural Barns to Residential, Thrupp

Posted on 30/07/2017

Planning permission has been granted for a residential conversion scheme in Canal Road, Thrupp.

The site lies within the Oxford Greenbelt, the Oxford Canal Conservation Area and the Hampton Gay, Shipton-on-Cherwell and Thrupp Conservation Area. It also forms part of the setting of a Grade II Listed Manor Farmhouse.  These factors presented a number of challenges, as well as its location in flood zone 3.

The two existing storage buildings on the site will be retained and converted into two four bedroom homes and one five bedroom home.

The design has been developed to ensure that it positively embraces the traditional and agricultural setting.  Overall the scheme represents a viable re-use of the buildings, ensuring their long-term retention and preservation, both for their own merit but also for the contribution they make to this area of Canal Road and the wider context of Thrupp.

The main characteristics of the barns, such as large open interiors and unbroken roof slopes respond sensitively and appropriately to the context of the surrounding listed buildings.
