New Home on Stilts

Posted on 08/10/2020

We are delighted to have secured Reserved Matters approval for a new four bedroom family home on a site located within ‘open countryside’ and Flood zone 3.

The proportions of a typical one and a half storey form, combined with the strategically placed openings, assist in creating a contemporary take on the traditional design of a dwelling. The palette of materials relates to the traditional farmhouse / agricultural buildings found in the surrounding area.

Two different materials have been proposed to help break down the scale of the dwelling. The horizontal cladding creates a subtle nod to the character of the site, blending in with the existing trees to the front of the site. While the house sits upon ‘stilts’ to satisfy the constraints of the flood zone, the flood strategy of the floor slab being lifted created the opportunity for amazing views through and across the open countryside.
